Cardocs is a subscription-based product that was introduced to automate the process of an automobile workshop. Cardocs's main audiences include automobile service centres, mechanical workshops and body shops.

The goal of the product was to create a single solution for all requirements of a typical automobile workshop which include but are not limited to, invoicing, job management, inventory, appointments and schedule, estimates, cash management and inventory.

During my research, I identified that the user base is a critical part of this project. The platform will be used by mechanics who have little to no knowledge of how to use computers and technology. Due to this reason, I decided to do field research with a selected potential user base before committing to the development phase.

During the first concept testing with a selected set of actual mechanics, I realized that they were struggling to navigate through the system. I then started recording their experience of using the mock-up application.

After reviewing the recordings, I realized the users could not easily find what they wanted. I also noticed that they were reluctant to search. These observations brought me back to the drawing board to curate a solution.

My solution was to customize the home screen using big tiles for the most used features. After another concept testing with this approach, we noticed a clear increase in efficiency and easy use of the system among the users. Following the same approach, I tried to keep elements as large as possible, without compromising the design and the experience.

Ultimately, we were able to ship a product that mechanics and workshops owners quickly fell in love with.
